Let the games begin!

Or at least that is what I thought when I signed up for this year’s Adwars… Boy was I wrong! First, the leader of our esteemed team was Michael Mackie. Brilliant. Dashing. Tyrant. Mackie has a competitiveness running through his veins. He might seem like a gentle giant but make no mistake; he is ruthless when it comes to trivia – ad trivia to boot.
After belittling the team with insults and rants, Mackie went ahead to shout out right answers to other teams just to punish the team for questioning his trivia-ness and gorgeousness. We later duck taped Mackie to a chair and gagged him with a sock – you can guess whether it was clean or dirty.
After that, Joe found himself star struck. The 2 hosts of the evening were John January and Tug McTighe. We would find Joe staring excessively towards the podium. Maybe that’s why we got the JPEG question wrong. What does it stand for again? Not only were we star struck by the famous people, we were struck with waves of nausea when Adwars claimed that Tay Zonday actually contributed something to marketing – thanks Dr. Pepper.
We stormed the competition and came out in the top 10. We even have a trophy that Joe stole.
Um. I mean was awarded to us for our efforts… All in all, coming in 9th place feels good, and we help put PlattForm’s name on the map as a company to reckon with when it comes to ad trivia.
Here is the team that took on the Boulevard Brewing Co. (and would gladly take on any other brewing company for that matter):
- Joe “Skippy” Mulvihill – in charge of nerd, Google, anything relating to jingles, terms, commercials, and all ad questions
- Michael “How’s My Hair?” Mackie – in charge of keeping all of us organized and on-track to answering the questions. If it wasn’t for M2, we would have forgotten that we were in a competition and would have focused on the open bar
- Andy “The Emailer” Belot – in charge of the Southern Comfort and money to buy answers
- Jesse “The Guns” Marks – in charge of distracting the other contestants with his biceps and triceps
- Rebecca “The Saint” Coffindaffer – in charge of reminding the team we represent PForm
- Dave “4-Drink Minimum” Campbell – in charge of getting the drinks
- Kevin “The Gentleman” Kuzma – in charge of being mature and having the most dignity out of the bunch, as well as apologizing to those around us for everyone else’s behavior
- Jonathan “The Babysitter” Gaikwad – in charge of keeping an eye on Dave
- Laci “Second Guesser” Wright – in charge of switching the right answers to wrong and not vice versa
We do have 2 honorees that were not able to make it but were there in spirit – Danny Pumpelly and Janelle Laudick. Because of you both sending us telepathic answers, we were able to come in the top 10!
I know that when next year comes around, Mackie doesn’t even need to ask or tempt me with free food and an open bar – I will be gladly to compete in Adwars again. Go team DEFCON 10!
